Addie, Sage and Rebecca have been working hard this summer preparing for the Rooted in Respect summer camp and have gotten together a schedule of activities!

Rooted in Respect Summer Camp Schedule
Wednesday August 17th
Morning: 9:30am -12pm
Welcoming from elder.
Staff introduction (pronoun convo) and project introduction.
Story from Chaw-winis and conversation about consent and violence on our land and bodies.
Community agreement

Lunch: 12pm – 1:00pm
Lunch provided. Majority of the food will be seasonal and local.
Afternoon: 1:00pm – 4:30pm
Beangka Elliott will lead us on a plant walk on traditional territories (Beacon Hill) bus will take us to the location and back

Thursday August 18th
Morning 9:30am – 12:00pm
Sage (youth staff) will tell her story and connections to the Land
Moose Hide Campaign, respectful relationships
Addie (youth staff) getting to know traditional plants from this area, traditional berry bingo and lip balm making
Lunch: 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Lunch provided. Majority of the food will be seasonal and local.
Afternoon: 1:00pm – 4:30pm
Improv activity led by Chloe (youth) about Food Justice
Tableaus to sprout conversations about root causes and solutions
Decorate the bottles that the seedlings will be planted in, and plant seedlings to take home

Morning: 9:30am – 12pm
Farm gleaning or backyard picking with Life Cycles
Lunch: 12pm – 1:00pm
Lunch provided. Majority of the food will be seasonal and local.
Afternoon: 1:00pm – 4:30pm
Making jam from the fruit that we glean to give as gifts to Victoria Sexual Assault Centre survivors, and to take home.
Make bannock to eat with the jam!
