Welcome back, Sage!
Hadih, Sage Lacerte Sahdnee!
Hello, My name is Sage Lacerte!
I prefer to be addressed as she and/or her, or simply by my name!
My family is from the Carrier territory in North Central British Columbia, but I was raised by my big beautiful family in “Victoria”, BC, on the Lekwungen and WSANEC lands.
Two summers ago, I held the Youth Community Coordinator position with Project Respect.
Now,
I am so humbly and deeply honoured to be welcomed back into the Project Respect family after 2 years of schooling and travel.
I am extremely excited to announce that I will be continuing my work with Project Respect as ONE of TWO youth summer staff working on the Rooted in Respect Food Justice Project!
I care so dearly for this project because of its closeness in values to those that I carry myself with everyday: operating within a traditional and non-traditional agenda, enlightened social action conversations and activities, exposing the effects of colonialism, and tying these extremely relevant topics to the deep seeded and ongoing issue of sexualized violence.
My schedule is somewhat unorthodox this summer because my family and I will be travelling back home to engage in our traditional practice of hunting, fishing and gathering throughout the beginning of August.
I’ve made a commitment to myself and my team to keep my mind engaged in the project in order to bring back some beautiful pieces of home to share with the camp.
My mind is a whirlwind of thoughts and ideas as I dream about the potential that this amazing work can and will achieve in the next few months!
Consider this my formal invitation for you folks to embark on this incredible journey alongside me and the marvellous team of beautiful minds that I am fortunate enough to be working with this summer!
Please feel free to e-mail or call if you have any questions, comments, thoughts!
