Announcing: Rooted in Respect Summer Camp!
We’re so excited to announce that August 17-19 will be the Food Justice Project‘s free Summer Camp: Rooted in Respect! We’ll post more announcements as the summer rolls on, but in the meantime, check out the event on facebook, spread the word, contact us to ask questions, and keep being awesome! Register here by August 14, or be in direct touch!
What is the summer camp exactly?
Rooted in Respect is a youth-led event where you’ll learn from Indigenous teachers about different aspects of local food systems and how food is used as medicine by local nations!
Activities may include: plant walks, invasive species pulls, learning about salmon, harvesting & cooking with seasonal foods, and more!
Learn about the history and present day realities of colonization and how it has impacted the lands and bodies of Indigenous peoples and everyone living in these territories.
Lunches will be provided.
This is a major start to our ongoing food justice programming! There will be lots of opportunities to have develop the ongoing projects and social actions after the camp is finished!
Who’s it for? While we are focussing the programming for Indigenous girls and two-spirit youth, non-Indigenous youth of all genders are also totally welcome at the camp! We want it to be a mixed space. If you’re interested, come on out!
When? August 17-19, 9am-5pm
Where? Greater Victoria area – Lkwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories. We’ll be travelling by bus to various locations. Contact us if transportation is a barrier to your participation and we can see what we can do!
